Sunshine House
A series of unique mixed media monotype prints on heavyweight, handmade Khadi paper based on my original photographs taken in the 1980s of my grandparents’ house and garden. It was a happy house. I have experimented with enriched colours to create otherworldly versions of the originals, more vibrant, better and brighter. They are almost ‘chocolate box’ images which celebrate the mundane and ubiquitous and my working-class roots. The images have a ‘retro’ feel, nostalgic and familiar to us growing up in the 1970s and 1980s. The Anderson shelter as an extra shed in the garden, a relic from World War II and is a symbol of shared histories and experience.
