Recast: Manhole Cover Prints
A series of photo polymer intaglio prints inspired by manhole covers, boundary boxes and drain covers found at home and abroad. These prints record their eclectic patterns and celebrate the geometric designs and surface texture on these heavy, cast-iron, metal objects. The addition of colour overlays, circles and stripes, inspired by the art of Tapiés and the Road Worker’s spray can, create abstractions out of the known and familiar. The prints bring to eye level the discreet, hidden-in-plain-sight designs that we walk on every day. They celebrate these functional objects: their presence as historical markers of urbanisation and as access points to the subterranean networks and infrastructure that make our towns and cities work.
